The New Campus:

It is an exciting time for the school as we move to a new campus for 2020-21 to facilitate an expansion from 900 students to 2000 within 3 years; next year we expect that the number will increase to approximately 1350.

The new campus, like the current one, is located downtown in Futian district and next to Antuo Shan Metro Station.  There will be purpose-built staff accomodations at the site with easy transit directly outside.

Qualification Requirements for Teachers:
  • A degree in your area of expertise.

  • The Working Week: The regular working week is Monday – Friday, 08:00 – 16:30 (early finish at 15:00 on Fridays). Of the 48 x 40 minute periods in the week, normal contact time for a teacher is 24. Teachers also have 6 periods of personal time fixed into their timetables when they do not need to be at work. Teaching staff at SCIE are also expected to offer one hour after school of extra-curricular activity each week. Our school year is August to mid-June with all Chinese holidays (including 1 week for October National Day and 3 weeks for Chinese New Year) plus 2 weeks Christmas holiday.

    Salary: This is according to our published salary scale, plus apartment provided, full international medical cover (self + dependent) and annual flight allowance (self + spouse).

  • Information about our physics department:

    At our new campus, physics will expand from its current 11 full time teachers and 2 technicians to more than 20 teachers and a dedicated technician team by 2023, working in our 10 purpose-built physics labs. Teachers will have a variety of classes from IGCSE Physics in UK Years 10 and 11 and AS/AL Physics in UK Years 12 and 13. The subject is highly popular throughout the school with about 80% of the cohort taking it at AS level and two thirds the cohort at A Level. Results are very high, with over 95% achieving A/A* at IGCSE and 75% at A Level. Each year a number of students choose to apply to Physics or Engineering courses in top universities in the UK and US, with a significant number taking up places in Physics, Engineering or Natural Sciences courses at Oxbridge.

    We are looking for strong physics teachers with experience of A Level to join the team in this exciting period of development and expansion.     At our new campus, chemistry will expand from its current 8 full time teachers and 2 technicians to more than 15 teachers and a dedicated technician team by 2023 working in our 10 purpose-built chemistry labs. Teachers will have a variety of classes from IGCSE Chemistry in UK Years 10 and 11 and AS/AL Chemistry in UK Years 12 and 13. The subject is highly popular throughout the school with about two thirds of the cohort taking it at AS level and half the cohort at A Level. Results are very high, with over 90% achieving A/A* at IGCSE and almost 75% at A Level. Each year a number of students choose to apply to Chemistry courses in top universities in the UK and US, with a significant number taking up places in Chemistry, Biochemistry or Materials Sciences courses at Oxbridge.

Teachers will have a variety of classes from IGCSE Biology in UK Years 10 and 11 and AS/AL Biology in UK Years 12 and 13. The subject is popular throughout the school with about a quarter of the cohort choosing it at AS level. Results are high, with over 85% achieving A/A* at IGCSE and nearly 75% at A Level. Each year a number of students choose to apply to Biology courses in top universities in the UK and US, with a significant number taking up places in Biology, Biochemistry or Natural Sciences courses at Oxbridge.

  • About our Maths Department

    At our new campus, Mathematics will expand from its current 14 full time teachers to about 25 teachers by 2023. Due to the calibre of our students, Mathematics is taught as standard a year in advance of normal cohorts with IGCSE Mathematics or Additional Mathematics in UK Year 10 and AS/AL Mathematics in UK Years 11 and 12. Students are then able to study AS/AL Further Mathematics in UK Years 12 and 13 as appropriate. The subject is highly popular throughout the school with almost all students completing As Mathematics and about 90% continuing to A Level. Results are very high, with over 95% achieving A/A* at IGCSE and over 85% at A Level. Typically, about half of the students will study Further Mathematics with nearly two thirds achieving A/A*. Each year, a number of students choose to apply to Mathematics courses in top universities in the UK and US, with a significant number taking up places in Mathematics courses at Oxbridge each year. This is facilitated with regular extension classes preparing students for the STEP Mathematics exams each year.

    We are looking for strong mathematics teachers with experience of Pure Maths, Mechanics and Statistics at A Level to join the team in this exciting period of development and expansion. Experience of teaching mathematics at the highest levels, particularly Further Mathematics and the ability to facilitate extension classes in Mathematics will be an advantage.

  • About our English Department

    our new campus, English will expand from its current team of 15 full time teachers to about 30 teachers by 2023. The level of English amongst our students has been developing and currently the students study a blended language and literature course in UK Years 10 and 11 according to their ability and background. Typically students will then take the IGCSE E2L exam at the end of their first year and then IGCSE English Language, and possibly also English Literature at the end of their second year. In their A Level years, UK Years 12 and 13, students will move on to the UK GCSE English Language in Year 12 and an Extended Project Qualification in their final year. Students may also choose to study AS/AL English Language or English Literature to further their interests, instead of the regular courses.

  • About our Commerce Department

    At our new campus, commerce will expand from its current 10 full time teachers to about 20 teachers by 2023, teaching mostly economics but also with some Business Studies and Accounting classes. Teachers will have a variety of classes from IGCSE Economics in UK Years 10 and 11 and AS/AL Economics in UK Years 12 and 13. Some classes in business or Accounting may be possible depending on skills and experience. Economics is highly popular throughout the school with more than half of the cohort taking it at AS level and the majority of these continuing through to A Level. Results are very high, with over 80% achieving A/A* at IGCSE and about two thirds at A Level. Each year a number of students choose to apply to Economics, Finance or Business courses in top universities in the UK and US.

This year sees our first cohort at the full A Level and already we are seeing more students applying for a Performing Arts oriented course at university.

Volleyball and basketball specialisms would be an advantage.

Teachers will have a variety of classes from IGCSE (Fine) Art in UK Years 10 and 11 and AS/AL (Fine) Art in UK Years 12 and 13, depending on skills and experience. The subject is highly successful with two thirds of students achieving A/A* at IGCSE and typically around three quarters at A Level with the top students regularly achieving the highest marks in Country or in the World. Each year a number of students choose to apply to Art, Architecture and Design courses in top universities in the UK and US.

    We are looking for a strong art teacher with experience of A Level to join the team in this exciting period of development and expansion. Experience of teaching art at the highest levels, with particular focus on facilitating students to achieve their best will be an advantage. We will also consider applicants with skills in other areas of Art beyond Fine Art to enable us to further develop our Arts programme.

    At our new campus, Computer Science will expand to about 8 teachers by 2023. Computer Science is popular throughout the school and results are high, with about 70% achieving A/A* at IGCSE and nearly two thirds at A Level. The students are enthusiastic about coding and there are several extra-curricular groups with their own computing projects and interests. Each year a number of students choose to apply to Computer Science courses in top universities in the UK and US.

    We are looking for strong computer science teachers with experience of A Level and strong coding skills to join the team in this exciting period of development and expansion. Experience of teaching computer science at the highest levels, with particular focus on the ability to facilitate extension classes in computer science will be an advantage.

    At our new campus, modern languages will expand to develop provision in further languages by 2023. Teachers will have a variety of classes from IGCSE Spanish in UK Years 10 and 11 and AS/AL Spanish in UK Years 12 and 13. In addition we are looking to introduce further languages, initially at the IGCSE level but developing to AS and A Level over time.

    We are looking for a strong Spanish teacher with experience of A Level to join the team in this exciting period of development and expansion. Experience of and willingness to introduce an IGCSE course in French will be an advantage.

This position is ideally suited to a person with an understanding of international dormitory management, who appreciates and recognises the many complexities of teenage life. The ideal candidate will work within the dormitory as a manager and alongside either the academic college as a teacher or the pastoral college as a counsellor.

    Salary This is a 24-month contract, according to our published salary scale starting at, ¥12,500 per month, plus studio-style accommodation in student residential building, full international medical cover, provision for meals, and annual flight allowance.

Counsellors will be afforded a degree of flexiblity in their daily timetable, according to the needs of the college. Our school year is August to mid-June with all Chinese holidays (including 1 week for October National Day and 3 weeks for Chinese New Year) plus 2 weeks Christmas holiday.

    Salary This is according to our published salary scale, plus apartment provided, full international medical cover (self + dependent) and annual flight allowance (self + spouse).
